    Epic Beard Man

    Epic Beard Man

I never thought I would be discussing this on my blog either, but I do think that there is a lot to learn from this particular incident. I initially had no intentions of even talking about this subject until I heard both parties involved in the fight speak about it aft the fight.

I will break this down into 9 different parts.

    1. Tom (Epic Beard Man) Getting Tasered at a baseball game
    2. The initial incident itself.
    3. The people watching the incident on the bus
    4. The viral internet sensation and buzz on the video
    5. The Racist comments on the videos
    6. Being a war veteran
    7. The post fight interview of Tom (Epic Beard Man)
    8. The post fight interview of Michael (opponent)
    9. The Bottom Line

Part 1: Tom (Epic Beard Man) Getting Tasered at a baseball game

Here is a video that many people are not aware of. He was tasered at and Oakland A’s game Just last year:

It is hard to tell from this if he was deserving of being zapped, but it is also clear that he backs down to no one. Not even the authorities. So once he gets going the situation will be more and more difficult to deal with. Who knows, maybe there was a misunderstanding or someone started something with him. This is just speculation, but the thing that is clear is that he wont be pushed around by anyone including someone with a badge, gun and taser.

I think we have all seen someone in our lives talking nonsense and getting in peoples faces, but as the movie fight club says, “Most people, normal people, do just about anything to avoid a fight” which I believe to be true. I think when you are very young you may be a little feistier, but as you get older you will see that for the most part there is no benefit to it in the long run. So avoidance of a fight is the wise move unless cornered. Then you do what you have to do if you feel threatened with no way out.

Part 2: initial incident itself and Part 3: The people watching the incident on the bus

If you look closely at the incident itself from what you can see being said on the video looks like it was more of a misunderstanding. The very first part of the tape you clearly hear the following. Again, there may be more before this, but from what we can hear this is what happened.

Tom says “lets get back to discussing this, how much would you charge me for a spit shine?”

    Michael responds “What?”

Tom Repeats “How much will you charge me for my Stacey Adams… I am going to a Funeral on Friday… I gotta… You said you….”

Michael Responds “did you hear what I said big man?”

    Tom Says “Yes”

Michael Says “Why a brother got to spit shine your shoes?”

Tom Says “YOU OFFERED!” (to me this is a key line in the conversation)

Michael Responds “I didn’t offer you Shit!”

Tom Responds “What did you just say when you walked by me?”

Michael Repeats “Why a fucking brother got to spit shine your shoes?”

Tom Responds “No, You don’t have to”

Michael “Why a white man cant spit shine shoes”

Tom “It can be a Chinaman, it don’t matter”

    Michael “Look Dude, Look”

Tom “I ain’t Prejudice, Do you think I am Prejudice?”

Michael “Take your ass back up there and get the fuck up out of my face”

Tom “Why you being so hostile man”

Michael “because I am pissed off”

Tom “It is better to be pissed off than pissed on little buddy”

Michael “take your ass back up there right now”

Tom “You ain’t scared of this white boy, I am 67 years old?”

Michael “I’m 50, Ill put my foot up your ass.”

I don’t want to transcript this whole event, but this is where Tom gets up to keep this from escalating further and he does go up to the front of the bus. At this point it should have ended. They got their distance from each other and this should have been the end of it.

One thing that needs to mentioned and commended was the African American lady in the middle of the frame when they started getting up and it looked like it could go to blows right there. She was doing her best to try to calm the situation down. She was saying “hey hey hey, y’all chill” “forget about that”. This is VERY important in a situation like this. Many times the people in the heated discussion can go from heated to diffused or heated to an all out fight depending on the people in the near by area. This lady needs to be commended for at least trying to slow this down or to try to get them to stay away from each other and drop it.

At this point they are separated, but they are still jawing at one another, both being in the wrong for keeping it going when it could have ended there. Here is where the exact opposite of the older lady comes in and joins in the chant. “say it again, say it again, Say it again PINKY!” (nice little racist comment to add to the end of that one eh?) This ignorant lady single handedly puts more pressure on both people involved. At this point it goes back to the old playground I dare you. This is NOT the thing you want to happen when you are dealing with two stubborn alpha males. Race has nothing to do with this situation in general terms of argument. Now it is basically a man hood situation we are dealing with. Neither of them want to back down. So now if Tom says nothing, Michael wins, but if Tom does say something and Michael does nothing, Tom Wins. This may sound childish, but that is how it has always been and how it always will be. That is why this particular situation must be avoided at all times because once these lines are drawn, there is no going back. So naturally in the heat of the moment Tom says something. Michael gets up and begins to walk towards Tom in the front of the bus. Then you hear this woman again say “beat his white ass (racist) Fuck his ass up” in the background (I think by the same racist woman that used the pinky comment earlier in the video) Once Michael makes his move towards Tom when things have yet to cool down, he is 100% in the wrong. Once a person moves away from the conflict to diffuse it, who ever comes back towards the other person is 100% at fault. This is like rear ending another car while driving. If you hit some ones rear bumper while driving you are at fault and this is no different.

While Michael does make his way towards Tom, much of what is said is not understandable. You hear Tom say, “I am not getting up” (I take this is if he does not want to fight) There is a little jawing back and fourth, but no punches are thrown. You can again hear that older lady say, “Leave that man alone my brother”. You also hear someone else say “it ain’t worth it blood, it ain’t worth it”. So this is pretty good. Two people in the crowd do try to cool this off not to escalate it further. Then Michael begins to walk back towards his seat and Tom says very clearly “I would slap the shit out of him”. That was the final straw. Now that Tom has spoken up and very clearly in front of all those people said he would slap him Michael is in a position where he really doesn’t have much choice, but to do something. Like the old saying goes “His mouth was writing checks his ass can’t cash”.

Michael was wrong for approaching him the first time and for the second straight time Michael approaches Tom. Not only is he 100% wrong for this alone, he throws the first punch. Once this happens he has no ground to stand on. Win or lose he is at fault. We all know what happens from there. Tom Whales on him for a while and then stops and walks off the bus. I am not going into who stole Tom’s bag or anything like that.

I have heard people talking about this all over the place and this video went viral with over 3,000,000 views on the main video alone and this does not count all the other uploads to other sites or mash ups and commentary videos. So I can’t even imagine how many people have seen these videos. I must say that it is clear that Michael was in the wrong, but as I mentioned earlier we don’t know what was said before the tape started rolling.

One thing that does need to be noted in this discussion is that when you are on the military especially in basic training, all soldiers know how to shine shoes and or boots. If they don’t, they will most likely pay someone who is good at it to shine their shoes for them. I have known many people that would do this if they just didn’t want to bother with shining them. So we all know that this comment about shining shoes can easily be seen as a derogatory comment made by some old white man to a black man, but when someone does have time in the military it is not to be totally assumed that this was intended to be some sort of racial statement. Also, it is not clear that he was even talking to him. The most important thing is to see how Tom reacted and said to Michael “YOU OFFERED!”. It should be clear to anyone that with this reaction from Tom that he misunderstood something that Michael said, or that Michael misunderstood something that Tom said. I only bring the military aspect up because while I would completely understand why anyone of any race would consider this comment to be derogatory in nature, it may have been just a misunderstanding some how. While this is speculation, it should not be totally discounted.

Part 4: The viral Internet sensation and buzz on the video

Like I said in the very beginning. We have all seen or experienced someone verbally bullying someone or getting in their face about a situation. There were several reasons why this video took off.

1st – It is a real fight. People have always flocked towards something real especially if it is a fight. We see all sorts of studio produced videos and commercials so when something happens like this for real the story spreads like wild fire.

2nd – There is an old guy that is in the fight with a nice gray Santa like beard. How many times have you seen a 67 year old man in a full on fist fight lately? Or for that matter… Ever?

3rd – From First glance it looks like the good guy wins the fight and shows the aggressor get his ass handed to him. Street justice.

4th – We have all seen people like this and we all wished that someone would shut them up, but no one did. That person kept going on shooting their mouth off and no one stuck to their guns and stood up to what appeared at first glance to be a bully.

Keep in mind that all of these 4 statements were why I believe the video went viral. Since we don’t know what was said earlier before the video started we don’t know the whole story.

Part 5: The Racist comments on the videos

This is the most disgusting part of this whole situation. Anytime you see any video with a black vs. white situation. A debate, a contest or this fight you will see some racist comments, but this one seemed worse than most. A lot of these arm chair tough guys and girls typing all these hateful comments is sickening. While I don’t agree with the hate crime and hate speech bills, I do get bothered to see how low people can sink. It is nice to see some of the stand up people calling them out in the comments section for being racist, but the frequency of those types of comments is disturbing. We all know they would never say those racist comments to any African American to their face. Well at least a LOT of them wouldn’t.

Part 6: Being a war veteran

I am not sure what action Tom saw in Vietnam if any. I just don’t know about the facts on his service and where he was stationed and any other issues with him personally, but if he was there and did see some action it would not surprise me one bit. I have known some veterans from the Vietnam era and some of them do have some issues. I knew of a few veterans that you never wanted to wake up while they were sleeping because if you did, you might have your hands full for a while. I am not even joking. When you are out there in the jungle trying to kill or be killed and you see many friends getting killed all around you every day, it WILL change you forever. You just don’t get over some of this stuff that goes on in a war. You see things you can’t un-see. So when you have a potential war veteran like Tom in a situation like this, I am glad that he stopped beating on Michael. Sometimes they may not stop depending on their background. When someone is in an enraged state they can black out while in a fight and if they do it might be the end of someone.

Part 7: The post fight interview of Tom (Epic Beard Man)

There have been many interviews with Tom. I have seen at least 2 of them. One of these was made by someone on the street type of thing and another by a radio station who interviewed him. There were many things that were said by Tom that didn’t quite seem right. He stated that Michael flashed him a knife and that he was a convicted murderer and that Michael was out for 22 and a half minutes when in the video we clearly see him conscious and he walked back to his original seat bleeding badly. There just did seem to be some things that didn’t quite add up. I had no reason to doubt Tom or his words at first. I was not there. I don’t have any first hand knowledge of either of them except what was on the video. Tom is someone that seems pretty likable from his interviews. He is clearly amped up when talking about this incident. He also will burst into tears when talking about his mother that just passed away. He is clearly an emotional guy on both sides of the spectrum. I know a lot of people are making him out to be a hero for standing up to Michael, but at the same time Michael himself said that he has gone to prison. He has dealt with some pretty hard drugs and pimping. So that is the best resume to be walking up to the nearest fortune 100 company with. I am not judging him at all, but it needs to be said. I totally believe that people can change their life, but they must want to in order to do it. You can’t make them. So I do hope that he has all that baggage behind him now.

Part 8: The post fight interview of Michael (opponent)

This interview is the only reason why I wrote all this. If I had not seen this interview I would never have put this on my blog. It was so easy to write off Michael and call him just some dumbass thug that got exactly what he deserved. It sure looked like it to me. While I do consider him 100% wrong for approaching Tom the first time, and again 100% wrong for approaching him the second time, and again 100% for throwing the first punch, I would never have thought that this guy would ever have anything worth while to say in a million years after seeing how he acted in that video. This was where I was wrong. Someone sent me a link to the follow up interview of Michael where he talks about this. So the first thing that popped in my mind was “isn’t he going to be in jail for violating his parole for murder?” How is he out on the streets doing radio interviews on this fight if he is back in jail?

This is where it gets interesting. Michael sits down on this radio show and they begin to go over everything from who started it to who took Tom’s bag. First off, I had no idea that Michael was intoxicated on the bus. This happened in the middle of the day! It didn’t look like it was after 4:00pm either. I am not sure when it happened but it was not close to dark outside at all. While he does come off as very believable in the interview I would question that he remembers anything that was said 100%. If anyone reading this blog thinks about the last time they were at a party and got into an argument or watched one will not be able to remember every single word that was said. This again goes back to the simple miscommunication gone horribly wrong. Just look at Tom’s reaction when he says “YOU OFFERED!” This line is key to explaining that neither one of them were on the same page when they were talking.

Michael was also wrong when he said no one was stepping up to the plate and trying to help calm things down. There were at least two people trying to help the situation. Where I must commend Michael here is that he goes on there and says that he would like to apologize to Tom because he is a veteran and his own brother was in the service as well. He also apologized for the way he conducted himself by throwing the first punch. He also goes on to apologize to the AC transit company, the general public and the people on the bus. He also clarified that he did not have a knife on him at the time of the fight. Which is not what Tom said in his interviews. He also clarifies that he is not a murderer and is not out on Parole. I cannot vouch for this claim, but this is what he stated in the radio interview. If he was a murderer, I am pretty sure he would not be on the radio show. He even went as far to apologize to all the veterans. In the interview he also comments on all the racist comments on the video saying very bad comments on the video that I will not repeat here. He states that “He is not a thug or a wanna be gangster, and that he is a respectable citizen and a law abiding citizen.” Ironic considering he was just in a fight and being intoxicated in the middle of the day. Not the best way to back up that claim.

In the closing of the interview he was asked if he had talked to Tom and he said no, but he said he would like to “let bygones be bygones”. The main reason why I bothered posting all this on the blog was because we had just heard Tiger Woods give his long awaited public apology to the world. He sat there for like 15 minutes and read his pre-written speech to the world saying how sorry he was. Then I see this person Michael come on to a radio show with no real coaching, with no PR people and lawyers and say flat out that he was sorry for how things went down and that he was willing to let bygones be bygones. I believed his words more than Tiger Woods. I am not a huge fan of Michael and how he acted and in my opinion got what was coming to him on this occasion, but It is not my place to judge him, but in hearing this interview it was nice to see someone just sit there with no notes or pre-written papers in front of him and own the situation and at least for the moment be a man about it and say he was sorry.

    Part 9: The Bottom Line

While No one seems to know all the facts and I hope that these two people get a chance to hash it out and make some good out of a bad situation, there are some things to be learned from this. When you are in a heated debate with someone don’t draw the line in the sand. Once you do this, it can be a point of no return. The ultimatum, is not something to be used lightly. While most normal people will do anything to avoid a fight, painting them into a corner may do nothing except ensure that a fight will happen. This is not the olden days where it was always done with fists either. Someone may just pull the knife or gun and then it may not be time for the “amber lamps”, but time for the hearse. I think the most important thing about a situation like this is how are the people around the situation agitating it or calming it down. Many times both parties don’t want to take that final step and go into an all out fight, but with no way to save face, they will not back down. So if the people around them can talk some sense to them it can diffuse the situation. Conversely, if you have someone in the background challenging them to take it to the next level, they will most likely have to fight it out because they have gone to far. Also it doesn’t hurt to be sober. Many good people have done some pretty stupid shit while drinking (lets hope this is the case with Michael). So if you don’t have all your wits handy that last thing you want to do is debate someone, let alone fight them.

The most disturbing part of all if this is how many people that were watching the video of the fight went on to post hateful racist comments. We all know there is racism out there and maybe Michael deserved what he got on the bus, but that doesn’t mean that give anyone the right to bring it down to this level. I say this knowing full well that they would never say this out in the open and they just do so behind the protection of anonymity. So if they want to go online and speak this racist hate, fine, then put your face on camera and say all the racist things you want, but don’t hide behind your monitor to do it. Those people that did this are all cowards.

Finally, It will be interesting to see what all the facts are since so many people are enthralled by this story. If Tom does have some issues like PTSD, I hope that he can get some help. Many former military servicemen are thrown under the bus after their service to our country and that is a shame. It is sad that sometimes after they give to their country that they are never the same again and can’t hold down a regular job. This statement was not made about Tom personally, but to anyone that has served in the military and has not been able to come back 100% when their service is over and it is time to live the rest of their life.

This was a very interesting blog, I wouldn’t be surprised if every confrontation Tom has may trigger a flashback. My mother knows somebody who was in vietnam and he gets flashbacks. Cetain things trigger it, I haven’t asked myy mother what specifically that triggers it but Tom could feel that it is life or death in every fist fight he has.

It’s quite surprising to see Michael get interviewed and not talkin junk. I originally thought he was a 25 year old thug who wants to fight every white guy he sees or every older person he sees to take advantage of them. Although he was in the wrong I don;t believe he deserves any racist comments directed towards him or Tom. You might as well be the younger black girl video taping the fight. She is the one who stole Tom’s bag and said”Say it again, say it again pinky”. I believe she was one of the worst people in the fight. Thats just my opinion. In terms of trying to get a fight to happen. From what i saw it looked like they both tried to not bother fighting and just go seperate ways.

Its very likely Tom may have PTSD or maybe some other mental illness that involves bursts of rage. As what iv’e seen in the aftermath video he was still worked up and Michael again tried to keep it goin and again the young girl tried to agitate him, again. Its dissapointing that we currently have to deal with racism or even reverse racism but this I dont believe was a racist case until the young girl and everyone who writes racist and vulger comments about Michael made it a racist case. I’ll admit im on Tom’s side and I believe that Michael was wrong in this but I do believe there is nothin to gain by writin racist comments and yell out racist comments like that girl did.

This could be a lesson to be learned wether it is not fuck with older people because they may surprise you like Tom said. Or it could be that racism is currently in an all time high but this time its spread upon everyone else wetherits callin an asian a yellow callin black people Niggers or even callin white people pinky or crackers. Its just not neccesary and idiotic to believe that it helps any situation.

I agree with you. We do not need to be pointing out our differences like that. Your race does not define the type of person that you are, so I do not believe that there is any need to put any emphasis on it. That girl was rude and instigating things by making it a race issue.

Something that I found interesting is that Michael stated in the interview that he knew he was going to get beat down, because Tom was big guy….ect…but when he was walking up to Tom starting stuff, he sure was not putting off that body language, it sounds like a copout to me.

Well it’s like my uncle always says “There are 3 sides to every story what he said she said and what really happened”

    • Desire' 6:38 am on April 23, 2010 Permalink | Reply

After hearing both sides I am still think Tom did the right thing. No one deserves to be pushed around. As a person, he seems a little off, and it does appear that he has embellished his story a bit. However, these embellishments do not take away from the fact that his actions in this situation were completely just. I would rather focus on the action and why it made people react in such large numbers. Why is it that even though most people, who would not give Tom the time of day if they were walking down the street, will now stop and take photos with him? Think about it…there is a reason that people are so impressed with this particular situation…
As a veteran, I do not care about Michael’s opinion about us, and therefore do not need an apology. He is trying to use that line to make him look better and have people empathize with him. It is easy to come up with good excuses of why we did what we did when we messed up. I don’t care what he has to say now, because he was just a person who got what was coming to him in that situation. I think he learned his lesson and that is why he is sitting down like a proper acting citizen and apologizing. People will only do what we allow them to do to us, and Tom obviously doesn’t take S***!
We need to stop focusing on race so much. People can step around it all they want, but the reason that this video was so popular, was because it was a confrontation between a White guy and a Black guy. I debated even posting this because I know I am going to get so many comments on it, but it needs be said. There was a time when minorities were treated unfairly, and there were laws created to protect their God given rights. I am happy that these policies were established because as a Woman, I have benefited from them. However, I feel that many of these laws are no longer needed and are now only creating animosity toward races and genders. It is basic psychology, people don’t like being told what to do and when you force people to except ideas or belief; wither they agree or not; they will do the opposite. This motivation is called reactance. This is where I can understand the initial reinforcement by the Government, but at some point these laws need to adapt to the changing time.
I believe that people’s reaction to this video depicts the above conclusion. Interested to know what you think…be gentle….

P.S. The first time I saw this video, it was sent to me in an email titled “A sad moment in black history” by Wanda Sykes…

I just wanted you to know that the only time I had ever seen any news on television over the past several years had been when I was visiting someone else’s home. Most of it is disturbingly moronic. When I have watched your videos, I see intelligence, passion, and a desire to educate. It is obvious that you are not attempting to pull the wool over our eyes, but to take off the blinders that have been built by mainstream media. Thank you for being the ‘voice that cries in the wilderness’.

Because of my distrust of the television media, I knew nothing of Haliburton. Thanks for putting that up. I watched the entire documentary and was reminded of my mother-in-law’s experience, working as a nurse for a private company in Saudi Arabia. She came back a changed person from her second stint. Horrible things happened, and though she told us about some things, I know that she withheld much.

I wish I knew how we could take this country back from the big companies, but I don’t think it is possible. At this point, I’m sure that the world is owned by them. It is a bleak picture indeed.

Tags: Tiger Woods apology sorry for cheating wife woman womanizer nike golf pga

Tiger Woods does NOT owe you an apology.

    Tiger Woods im Sorry

    Tiger Woods im Sorry

I know some people will think to themselves “what is he talking about this garbage for”, but hear me out. I was curious how this would play out knowing how much money is involved with him playing golf. The fact of the matter is that he is literally bigger than the sport. Just look at the ratings when he is playing and when he is not. The ratings have dropped as much as 55% without him in the game. His presence is that powerful. As big as Michael Jordan was he never had this type of impact on the league when he was in his prime. The difference if Tiger plays in a tournament can mean more than double the normal ratings.

I know people have beat this story to death and for the most part I disagreed with most of the commentary on this subject so I wanted to post my thoughts about it.

This is what we all know. Tiger Woods Cheated on his wife with at least one woman, but most likely it was a LOT more than one. There is no point going into how many because who knows who is telling the truth and who is lying. It is like a feeding frenzy now with woman coming out of the woodworks. He is a married man with two kids. So naturally any family oriented person would think this is the wrong way to ensure a solid family foundation cheating on your wife.

I know this is all obvious, but here is where I have seen so many people get it wrong. All this is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS! He is not a political figure. He is not in charge of public policy. He does not write and pass laws. He does not earn a living off of the taxpayers money paid to him by his elected office. He is a guy that plays golf and now he can just add cheating husband to his credentials. He cheated on his wife and it was all over the papers. Are you kidding me. This was a bigger story than 9-11 for the New York Post. He was actually on the cover for 20 straight issues.

Tiger and 9 11 New York Post 20 days in a row

This is how messed up the media is, but is it their fault and their fault alone? Of course not. If enough people would have stood up and said after the 3rd day. “If you put him on the cover one more time we will never buy your paper again!” That would have been the last of him on the cover I promise you that.

The real depressing part of this, as you already know, is that they are in fact giving a large part of the population what they want. Gossip about some golfer who cheated on his wife. This just shows how low things really are right now in the news industry. The real news is a miserable thing to report, usually filled with war, crime, death and misery. Who really wants to do that every day? It can be depressing. Most people actually get their news from shows like the Daily Show. Making jokes at the real news makes it a little more tolerable. So today we live in a world where a golfer cheating on his wife takes more priority over the billions of companies like Goldman Sachs who received one of the biggest money and power grabs in this country’s history. The bailouts, the stimulus and other bills being passed right now could not only affect you, but your kids and their kids’ kids as well, but does this make the front cover for 20 straight days? Of course not. Even though it is a bigger story it is not nearly as sexy. It won’t sell copies. That is the bottom line. It is a business and sex and scandal will always win out over a solid news story with no sleazy appeal.

So now back to Tiger and his wife. The reality is that the only people he needs to apologize to is his wife and family and personal friends that were affected by this. He doesn’t owe me an apology. He does not owe you an apology. It is none of my business. It is none of your business. It is not like he harmed me in any way. My life is not affected by him cheating on his wife one bit. Whatever friends and family I have in my life will not be made better or worse because he cheated on his wife and now he made some public apology. I have heard all sorts of people on shows like Around the Horn and PTI that say ridiculous things like he needs to go on Oprah. Like she is the one that can now wash away all his sins. Are you kidding me? Every time something like this happens from Michael Vick to Jay Leno all these talking heads always say they need to go on Oprah to repair their image. He doesn’t even owe the networks an apology. Hell they are making money off of him regardless of this and in fact it was a sleazy event that brought women’s figure skating a huge ratings bonanza when the whole Tonya Harding Nancy Kerrigan fiasco hit the fan in 1994. Because of that event before the Olympics, The broadcast of the Olympics remains one of the most watched telecasts in American history. This makes for higher ad sales and everyone is happy. The networks will always find a way to sell a story good or bad to get people to view and for the most part it works.

As most of you have seen he finally, after months of speculation, came out and addressed this subject in the usual press conference manner. He stands at a podium reading line by line everything his lawyers and PR people arranged for him to say and he read it like Obama giving a speech. Accept Obama can sell it, Tiger can’t. He stumbled and bumbled through it and in the end what did it really accomplish? Not a lot. You have a guy that was in the top of his field and he made a public apology to a bunch of people that he did not hurt. The only reason for this really is to make the sport of golf and the sponsors of both the PGA events and Tiger himself sell the events with a clear conscience. They just don’t want every wife in America and around the world to despise him and give their husbands a bunch of grief for watching him play or buying his merchandise. That was who this apology was for. He was apologizing for his business partners because they don’t want any of his dirt on them. Rightfully so. This was for the wives moms, sisters and daughters. Most men really don’t care that he cheated on his wife. They will not stop watching golf because of it. They will not stop buying his gear if they like it. Very few men will boycott his gear and the sport because of this. I don’t condone cheating on your wife, but again is it any of my business. NO! Was what he did wrong? YES!

Here is the thing to keep in mind. Had he been single he would have been considered a ladies man. No one made him get married. Anytime you see a very young person have the world at their fingertips you know they are going to have issues. It is usually too much to handle. Why do you think these child stars have such issues? I knew somehow some way that Kobe Bryant would have some issues. He was all of 18 years old, a millionaire and living in L.A. How much more could you want as a young charismatic man. Then you have the alleged rape that took place in Colorado. Kobe was accused of RAPE and he is fine now. He really does not carry a stigma because of it. He is the blueprint for how to handle something like this. Hell his jersey is the number one in sales right now since the start of the 2008-2009 season. People always move on.

If you are a young charismatic male with fame and fortune, marriage is going to be a hard thing to stick to. Some men are not faithful at all. Others might get weak under the right circumstances. The key is to avoid any possible temptations. If you are someone like Tiger Woods you are not going to have a problem finding a woman, but if you do decide to settle down you really better be ready to settle down. If you are rich, alone, you may have the need to be careful with your relationships with women and women with men. It goes both ways. So for someone who has all these ingredients like youth, fame and fortune marriage is going to be a hard thing for some men to stick to. In general it is obvious that people really don’t take marriage that seriously any more. It used to be damning for someone to be divorced and that was less than 100 years ago. Now if a couple has a few bad days in a row they say they have irreconcilable differences and move on to the next ex-wife or ex-husband. It really is not the commitment that it used to be by modern society standards. There is no real backlash if a famous celebrity or athlete gets a divorce.

For me this is the litmus test for an apology. This is how you know if someone is really sorry or not. The first and only rule for a sincere apology is that it must come from you and you alone. Imagine you get in a bad fight with your husband or wife, mother or father, or brother and sister and later you want to tell them you are sorry. So you call them into a room and you break out your note cards or pad of paper and begin to read it to them verbatim. Most people would not consider that a legitimate apology. While I don’t think he was obligated to make a public apology, if he was indeed going to make one on this subject he could have at least spoke from his heart not his pre written speech. I still remember when Terrell Owens had his agent read his speech for him. It got me pretty misty eyed I have to admit. Nothing says sorry more than someone else reading your apology for you.

I think if he had been proven to be drinking and driving which some speculate, then I may change my tune on this, because he would then have been on an open road and could have hurt or killed an innocent civilian. Under those circumstances I would say that he does indeed owe a public apology, but not if he has not done something reckless that would put innocent people in danger. Again, if he had been serving a public office where he is paid and his income is from the tax payer, this would be a completely different story because the general public are actually paying this person to serve them and they are accountable in other ways that most citizens are not.

This all goes back to the type of “news” the mass media spits out on a daily basis. There is an old saying “never screw up on a slow news day”. Well if you are someone with the stature like Tiger woods and you screw up in a sex scandal, every day is a slow news day.  I cant tell you how many people have no clue who the Vice President is, but they all know tiger cheated on his wife and whatever Angelina Jolie is doing this week.

If you ever want to see how much of this started in this country you really need to watch these videos below. This is the story of Fatty Arbuckle and William Randolph Hearst. Hearst was the famous publishing tycoon who uttered the famous words. You furnish the pictures and I’ll furnish the war.

This video collection is a five part series on the Early Scandals of Hollywood and how the media (specifically Hearst) Reported on it.

This is Orson Wells speaking of how basically Citizen Kane and trying to stick to movies ruined his life. William Randolph Hearst and Orson Wells were both consumed by this and they were never the same after it. If you can find it, make sure you watch documentary about this event called “The Battle over Citizen Kane”

I am new to doing these blogs on this site. I have no idea how to make these comments automatically be approved. For some reason this blog site or my channel makes me actually check for posts like yours and approve them. I have looked on here for a different setting, but could not find it. So if anyone reading this knows how to change this blog to auto approve comments let me know. Thanks

Yet an other time where you speak for the rest, well, at least for me.
didn’t even know it got bigger than the 9/11 incident.
that really should be a warning-sign. Too bad some people are hooked on the booze, dope, porn or celebrity shit. I call this category of people 3rd graders. It got nothing to do with school grades. It just means they pretty much lost it, and are hanging on a synthetic and man-made everyday life.
Question is however… how should we “un-plug” these people. It is obvious that the mainstream media Like Television and 3rd grade magazines keep em in this pseudo-real life.
There are a lot of people (including You) who try and do their best to unplug people, kind of make em look back, stand on solid ground (hope you get my point) and I thank You as well as all other people who are aiming at this same goal.
      But…. I don’t know…
Any advice of how to help? I mean, is it really enough to try to mirror to this site?
Or shall I go poke people with a stick 😛
No but seriously… And what do we do with the people that ARE listening (like me)

I am grateful/thankful for your work and wish you all the best man, keep kickin at it 😉
And thanks for this vid by the way, its one of these good rare vids that more people should see, especially the 3rd graders.
Have a nice day Man, Peace and love

I do enjoy how you go in depth instead of 2 or 3 lines of basically a 3rd graders summery of Cat In The Hat. I always felt that I didn’t deserve Tiger’s apology but the funny thing everywhere I see is “Tiger owes us an apology”,” My kid will cheat on his wife if he doesnt apologize”. I don’t feel that I need someone to apologize and justify why he may have doomed his relationship. Then when I read in your blog that Tiger Woods was on the front cover for 20 straight days thats very sobering you could say.Its hard to believe that something that noone died from or got dangered exept his relationship is more importantan to people than the idea of everyone losing money, or the 2,900 people who died in the date of 9/11 and how people are getting lung cancer possibly because the debris.

When I saw the apology, i’ll admit after 2 days of hearing nothing but the upcoming press conference without questions I was interested in what he would say.I do also admit that the rules and stipulations were idiotic. After his statement everyone exept an espn writer named Stephen A. Smith said he hated the statement and I agree. I personally lost more respect for Tiger Woods(but its likely more temporary than not) when he said his apology I think an apology that he didn’t even write, and could barely read(I doubt it was because he was emotional)it. In what Mr.Black wrote above”Imagine you get in a bad fight with your husband or wife, mother or father, or brother and sister and later you want to tell them you are sorry. So you call them into a room and you break out your note cards or pad of paper and begin to read it to them verbatim. Most people would not consider that a legitimate apology.”I completely agree with that point he made. I felt the apology was cheap but thats my opinion.

Now with the story about Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle is very interesting. Its crazy how censored the early 1900’s are. Could do you think of any other guys where somebody wrongfully lost their credibility due to an overblown newspaper or magazine story? I thought it was kinda funny how at that time some places wouldnt allow a women to show their ankles in a movie otherwise they would censore the movie and not show it whatsover. It’s amazing to think of how censored those days were and thank you for sharing your blog and a great story about a guy whos life got ruined by one writer who basically overblew everything to get more sales. Hope you make more of these, now I could get my “fill” that i’ve been waiting for on youtube for months. Again thank you for being real approachable and have enormous intelect and I greatly respect and appreciate that.

The media underestimates us. While sex may sell, if they were consistent with newsworthy media, I think they’d have a supportive foundation in there listeners/viewers. I honestly don’t believe they want us to elevate our minds by keeping us informed with the truth and more important matters. I’ve listened to the news tell me that plates and portions of food is 60% bigger today than it was in the time of Jesus, based on the drawing of the last supper LMAO LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL ….I couldn’t believe I was expected to be so dumb, listening to that GARBAGE!!!! #1 it’s a painting (not even a portrait), meaning it’s all the figment of the artist’s imagination. He wasn’t looking at Jesus and the disciples during the last supper, and who’s to say how his brain computed what the size of the plate should be on the table? it wasn’t a photograph! ….so just to go along with what you’re saying about topics that are hardly newsworthy being overexposed (or exposed as at)….that’s why we have other sources of information to be informed. I have no trust in the media. They’ll have you more worried about receiving free health care, than being able to afford your own health care. That’s the problem. I can’t afford it. Don’t encourage me to be a slave to the system. Help me discover my independence. PLEASE!!!! That’s what I need.

Tags: Olympic youtube blood money Nodar Kumaritashvili luge accident 2010 Olympics Georgian luger profiting from death misery unethical reporting exploiting dead

    Youtube Blood Money

    Youtube Blood Money

About 3 years ago I received a spam message on one of my videos saying and I quote

MY boyfriends in Iraq and I need someone to play with. Now needless to say I found that to be extremely offensive for many obvious reasons.

Not until this week have I been so disgusted with something here on youtube.

For those of you who may not know, there was a tragic accident just days ago at the winter Olympics that killed a Georgian Olympian, Nodar Kumaritashvili. He was all of 21 years old.

I don’t follow the Olympics that closely, but I stumbled across the story here on youtube while looking at the videos of the day. I must say, like anyone, I was curious what went wrong. I am not a morbid person, but I have played sports in the past and was wondering how something like this could happen.

I want to make something very clear before I go into all this. I normally never go after any other Youtubers. They can make whatever kind of videos they want. I am not a hater. I don’t care about how some changes their voice. I don’t care that they may or may not have a mask on. That has nothing to do with this video and my take on this subject. I didn’t want to make a video on this subject. I put it off for days hoping that it would not keep going on like this, but after seeing a 3rd channel pull this same trick I could not keep quiet any longer.

    Profiting off of someones death

    Profiting off of someones death

I let this slide for as long as I could. I just saw WAY to many people trying to profit from this young mans tragic death and I could not stay quiet about it any more.

So I find this video and I click on it to find some more information on how this accident happened and who this person was. So in this video I click on that was on the top of the front page of all of youtube in the popular section for the last 2 to 3 days has no real information at all about this person and what happened. All it is is some guy stating the obvious with a completely misleading thumbnail. This is a classic bait and switch thumbnail cheat. While he is talking about the the incident, it is nothing more than him sitting in a chair. It does not show any real insight into the man that was killed or what specially happened. Also the video was all of 50 seconds long.

Now this alone would not compel me to make a video on this subject. It is his channel and he can do what he wants with it.

The reason why I am making this video is for 2 reasons. He has made 5 videos exploiting this persons tragic death (if indeed that other channel is him. I think it is) and he has put ads on all five videos. The first video he goes briefly into what happened, ok I have no problem with that. In the second video He tried to defend his original video, but does he change the title or the thumbnail, no! He still uses the same language as the first video with another fake thumbnail trying to make more money off of the death of this young man. Then to top it off, he makes a 3rd video with the same title with the same fake thumbnail where he talks about how this is how he makes money, by reporting the news. Not once in those 2 follow up videos did he make a title of the video represent what those two videos were about. The second one was made to address why people were killing him in the comments section for profiting off of this young mans death, but in the 3rd one he actually walks around his garage showing all the things his blood money has bought him from the camera he uses to his car. Now this is not the only time this person has done this here on youtube.

This person waits for someone to die or merely a rumor of someone dying and he jumps on it immediately trying to capitalize on their untimely death.

He did this for Brock Lesner when he was ill.

He did it for Michael Jackson when he died.

These two were fairly understandable, but the one that really shows you that he does not give a damn at all is the one where he made a video about the rumored death of Kanye West and in the FAKE thumbnail he put the years 1975-2009 which everyone knows represents the birth and death of whoever you are talking about. Then he actually puts in the description and I quote “rest in peace to my dog… my homie.

This should clear up any doubt that he is nothing more than an ambulance chaser.

I am sure people like this just cant wait for the next Virginia Tech massacre to happen or the next princess Diana accident to run to their camera and try to sum up how sad they are in less than a minute to slap an advertisement on their video in hopes to be the first one that takes off and gets to be the one that gets pushed on the youtube surfers by being on the top of the popular page for days on end.

So how does youtube itself fit into all this?

Luge on top of Youtube Popular Page for days

They are the ones that have made sure it stayed on the top of the popular page this whole time racking up millions and millions of views. Without this type of premium placement it doesn’t get nearly the exposure. What people have failed to understand about the changes that youtube made long before the hulu tube video came out is that the popular section does not have a time limit. For the most viewed pages, once that video is 48 hours old it goes off of the lists. Whereas the popular page has no time limit. A video can be there for weeks on end. So in essence youtube has hand picked and promoted these videos made by him and helped him gain millions of views a day.

So to sum up the issues I have with this situation:

#1 – The fake misleading thumbnails for all 3 videos (that only partners can use)

The thumbnail is not at all what you see in the video

#2 – Making a second video with the same title as the first, but it is not about the accident, it is about all the hate he has been getting and rightfully so.

#3 – The most offensive part of this is the 3rd video where he shows how much money he has made from making videos like this. I have no problem with people making money for their videos and for their work, but when someone slaps a video together in all of 1 minute and uploads it to youtube then slaps a FAKE thumbnail on it to mislead people into thinking they are going to see something that is not even in the video is disgraceful.

#4 – Youtube has deemed that some users are better or more important than other users. If you are a partner you can lie, cheat, steal, and mislead users as long as you are making money for them. These statements are NOT specifically stated against these people who made these videos, but in general. I have heard of people having giveaways that never give anything away or they do something for charity, but the money may not in fact go to a charity. If the average user tried to do something like this with no advertisements next to it I can assure you it would not be plastered for days on the top of the most viewed page picking up millions of views. So the moral of this story is that if you are going to be unethical, you better make sure you and google will be able to cash in otherwise you just might get suspended.

Youtube has shown time and time again that if they like you and you make money for them you get completely different treatment than someone who doesn’t. In fact I was a partner for about a month and I tried to get my two videos that were unjustly flagged re-reviewed so they would not be flagged any more and they would not even return my emails. THIS WAS WHEN I WAS A YOU TUBE PARTNER! So shortly after that I told them to remove me from the partner program immediately and that I would not place advertisements on any of my videos. So in the end they found it easier to remove me from the partner program than to review my videos so we could both make money from my future videos.

I have talked several times in the past about how I feel about youtube and how they treat the users. What many people don’t understand is that, yes, I know it is a business, but all I ever wanted was for them to enforce the rules equally among all members. I can live by whatever Terms of Service they create, but I have no tolerance when they have two standards for channels. One standard for partners to get away with damn near anything and another for the rest of the users where they can just ban you and delete you with no warning or reason. They simply do it because they can. I have a mark on one of my channels to this day that has no information or reason. It is just a blank spot that says I violated something almost 3 years ago with no info at all on what it was and why it was put there.

The current double standard for users and how they choose to enforce the same rules in a completely different manner for one channel to another is right online with flat out discrimination. If there is no consistent enforcing of the rules then there is flat out favoritism and discrimination. If they were to come clean and be honest and say they want nothing to do with freedom of speech and put an end to their charade I would leave this subject alone, but when they lie right to my face and say how they are for freedom of speech while at the same time working on software in China and with youtube to promote their chosen channels over the rest of the community, that I do have a problem with. Here is an excellent video on this subject:

The reason why I still talk about these subjects is because I want people to know for the record that some of us know what they are up to and we can show people how they manipulate the system to elevate some channels over others and therefore discriminate against some of the channels they don’t like for one reason or another.

I normally don’t even go after another “youtube user”, but this time I had to make an exception. I was that disgusted at what I saw going on here. There needs to be some minimal respect for the dead and in this case I saw more and more people seeing how they could make a quick buck off of this story and using the same cheap techniques to do this for money. If they want to keep doing things like this to make money, that is up to them, but we all should call it like it is. Exploiting death and misery to make a quick buck. It is not just that it was done, but the way it was done. The difference between the networks is they have to talk about the news. They do it every day so when something happens like this they are required to. They also can report this in a good way and pay tribute, or they to can exploit his death by sensationalizing it. There is a right way to do this and a wrong way. Paying respectful tribute to someone that has passed away is a good thing and everyone appreciates a heartfelt video about someone who has just passed. These videos I am talking about in my video and this blog were not that type of video. They were just tabloid journalism at best. Nothing more, nothing less. I hope this is not the future of “reporting” on youtube.

I have seen at least 3 separate channels posting VERY short videos on this Olympians death with no real insight into what happened. No details. Nothing of relevencee and they do all this because they are a reporter. Reporters offer something to the story some actual insight into the event. Like say Something about the person and the families effected by this tragic event. These people have offered none of that. They just saw a quick payday and decided to cash in. It is their channel and they can do what they want, but I am not going to let them get away with trying to hide behind this “reporter” shield. We need to call this what it is. They see death and suffering and know that this will get the views. So they run right off to their camera wing a short video with very little useful information and slap a fake thumbnail on it and call it reporting. That is not the case. This is textbook exploitation.

I will be honest, I never thought I did anything wrong. I dont look at death the same way as others, Ive seen too much of it and it doesnt affect me the same way.

I will say your video put a foot in my ass, all bullshit aside, it put a foot up my ass. I never thought about it the way you put it. This isn’t to brown nose or kiss up to you, as I have always had respect for you. The points you made in the video put me in my place Mr. Black.

After looking at it the way you put it, it does make me feel somewhat ashamed, because while of course I was trying to get views, I didnt really think of the innocent. I didnt think I was doing anything wrong, so i struck while the iron was hot.

I deleted the third video yesterday, and have changed the title and thumbs of the 2nd video. Not because im scared of what people will think, Im sure millions hate me already. I changed it because your video made 100% sense to me. I didnt look at it like that before.

We have talked in the past and the last thing I ever wanted to do was make a video like this against someone I have talked to before. I am not like that. I put this off for days, but after the 3rd channel did this I could not let is slide any more. I am happy for you or anyone else that is able to make a living and provide for their family by making videos. I would maybe like to be able to do the same thing with making videos.

I cant say how glad I am that you took my video for what it was worth and that you didnt get defensive about it. I dont like making negative videos. I really dont. They are no fun. I started making videos here about entertainment and things that make me and others happy. I know that sometimes we can all see things with tunnel vision and not look at all the other perspectives out there, but it does take a stand up guy to say what you have said here and in my videos. I do appreciate what you have written and I am glad you took the time to respond. My best to you and good luck with your channel in the future.

I actually saw his first video within the hour that it was put up. All I saw were negative comments and him just defending himself. I was somewhat thinking the same thing as you were. I put my comment in. He deleted it. Likely because he didn’t want anyone to see it. So I’m glad you made your video response. If it was anyone else “lower” than you, I don’t think anything would have changed.

What is worth thinking about is the direction Ishatonu is going to take from now on. Will he use this as a turning point to throw away the mask and try to be less of what he is and more serious?
Or will he continue on with his current attitude?
      Thats interesting now isn’t it.

Possetive of this events for me is
      1. yet an other video from Mr.Black (great vid as many times)
      2. It made me get into this site, which I never done before. (at least what I remember) Which means maybe other people get in here from now on.
      3. Tis video really shed light on this subject, making it appear in real detail and contrast.

Looking forward for the further development of this incident, Ill give it a week 😉

This is a great video, I enjoy that someone who is known for trolling (I do believe that Mr. Black was the only one able to change IShatOnU’s mind on how he handled this) respects Mr. Blacks word so much enough to take down his videos and point out he was wrong in everyone of them and link to this video. I personally believe Mr. Black should get a youtube medal for that, lol.

I remember when I first subbed to IShatOnU he had 5,000 subscribers not as much as now though but i’ll never forget The video that he mirrored that video Mr.Black made HuluTube Phasing You Out. That is what I believe the best youtube video on youtube history. I honestly believe he could be the youtube activist or speaker. He speaks for the youtube community and he’ll have your back to the end which I respect. Heres some examples of what I believe he is maybe scaled down though in fame of course but I belive he is just like John Lennon in terms of approachablity.I’ll never forget when I first watch Imagin John Lennon a documentary about Johns life when a guy was living in John Lennons yard. Normal people would call the cops on him. You know what John Lennon did? He talked to him, he even offered the guy breakfast and they had breakfast together. Thats what makes the man John Lennon amazing. MLK Jr. due to the fact that he wants everyone treated equal. Or he makes speeches or videos for us, I dont make videos but he cared that if I ever did i would get a fair shot like guys like shane dawson Sxe Phil or even my least favorite Fred. I’ll be honest it is an injustice he only has 30,000 subscribers and thats a lot of subs but he deserves much more. Aiain I hope theres many more blogs to come.
